Wadi Mukalak

Walking distance: 10km | Walking time: 4-5 hours (including tea  breakfast) | Difficulty: Moderate/Difficult (challenging moments for anyone with vertigo) |

Rate: 100NIS per person (includes the taxi fare back to the cars). Minimum participants: 5 people .
Lunch option: Anybody who would like to have a traditional Bedouin lunch ready for you when we get back to Sea Level after the hike, please let us know when you register. The extra cost is 60NIS a head, minimum of 4 people.

Recommendations: Please wear hiking shoes, bring plenty of water (minimum 2 litres each) and bring hats and sunscreen. There are moments on the walk where you will need both hands, so backpacks, not handbags.

Walk the beautiful Wadi Mukalak, The 10km (moderate and at times difficult) walk starts at the Sateh al Bahar Bedouin community at Sea Level, and winds up the hillside to theTabaq al Qteyfplateau where views stretch away to Jerusalem and the Jordan Valley. From up top we drop down to Milaagi, a meeting point for 3 key wadis, the head of Wadi Mukalak and the home of theMilaagispring. Wadi Mukalak is today little visited but is a hidden treasure ofnature and history, home to hosts of desert plants and wildlife, and once part of Palestine’shistoric pilgrim route with the ruins of the Mukalak monastery built into its cliffs. Along the way we will have a Bedouin tea break around a fire before thewadi brings us out into the Nabi Musa area at Zeelga (‘slippery bridge’) where a taxi will be waiting to take us back to our cars.
Meeting time: 0900hrs
Meeting place: Sateh al Bahar Bedouin community at ‘Sea Level’ on Rd 1, where you can park your car(Jerusalem to Sea Level = 30 mins drive, Ramallah to Sea Level = 45mins drive)
Finish time: A local taxi will be waiting for us at the end of the walk to drive us the 15 minutes back to Sea Level.
